If what you are looking for is running SQL and DB admin tools, running scripts
etc then FlameRobin and EMS SQL Manager both have free (and for EMS paid)
versions. both excellent. Flamerobin (Sourceforge) lightweight and based on
functionality of MS SQL Studio, and EMS even in the Lite free version has lots
of features – eg running parameterised queries, extracting DDL, scripts and
edits with commit and rollback, running stored procedures etc. Both can show
SQL execution details and index stats. Flamerobin is cross platform, EMS
Windows only I think.

I am puzzled though, on the Rapid SQL page
http://www.embarcadero.com/products/rapid-sql it definitely says Firebird is
supported. Release date for that though is May 2010.

Was this one of the free tools you picked with XE2 order?

If so, what are the opinions which are the best free tools, I don’t really know
them and also want to get the best ones (I got XE2 professional)

I don't believe Rapid SQL supports Firebird.

  Hi all,

Has anyone had any success connecting the free Rapid SQL XE2 tool to the
example.fdb firebird database?

I've had a browse on the internet and all I can find is either adds telling
us how Rapid SQL connects to Firebird; or forms telling us that no-one has
found a way to make Rapid SQL to connect to a Firebird database.

I though it might be a version thing so I unloaded firebird 2.5 and
downloaded and installed Firebird 2.0 - with exactly the same result.

If someone has connected to the EXAMPLE.FDB database that comes with Firebird
can you please tell me what you did?
