At the Open Source Database Conference (http://www.opendbcon.net/) in Frankfurt last week, MySQL AB hosted a dinner for the database speakers and others involved in open source databases. The idea was to see how open source databases could collaborate. Øystein Grøvlen and myself were at the dinner, along with folks from MySQL, Postgres, Firebird, Hsqldb and SQLLite.
One idea that came up was a public, archived mailing list where technical discussions could occur. This list is now active at: http://lists.osdbconsortium.org/mailman/listinfo/hackers As Derby developers you may want to subscribe. The other main idea was for an official open source database consortium, though I think that got lost in the exact purpose of such a group. Issues arose around what would being a member mean and should commercial databases companies be excluded, which naturally would have excluded almost everyone at the table from joining. :-) Dan.
