Here is more info from me. I renistalled Ubuntu (for unrelated reasons) and when my cam did not work. So, I opened aMSN, ran through the config wizard (which saw my cam fine) and then closed it and went to cheese. still not working, so i changed the res to 800x600 (instead of the 1600x1200 it supports) then it was frozen. force closed it, went to aMSN, ran through the wizard again and closed it. now cheese works at 800x600. I cannot change the effects or it will stop working again.
