Public bug reported:

This is using jaunty, fr_CH.UTF-8, gnome-terminal encoding : UTF8

How to reproduce :
1) open gnome-terminal
2) mkdir Téléchargements
3) cd Téléchargement
4) type a long multiline command line
5) press up arrow to fix your command line, then home to go in the beginning

What happens :
sometimes the cursor goes too much to the left (on the #), then changing
letters corrupts the command line (jumps two chars, etc.) it's even worst if
you use accentuated letters

** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
