When using radeon driver on my Toshiba A300-1EG (it has Mobility Radeon HD3470) with external 1080p screen, there are many glitches in displayed image over the whole desktop. The problem gets more intensive if there are many changes on the screen, e.g. when moving a window around. Problem exists only on 1920x1080 resolution on both external monitor and external TV, both connected via D-Sub. Other resolutions are not affected. Using 1080p screen in dual head with internal 1280x800 screen is also working fine, although it is very slow. I have searched the Internet for other radeon-related tearing and flickering problems but didn't find anything with symptoms similar to this one. It looks like randmly flashing horizontal lines all over the screen and when moving a window or displaying a video, sometimes the whole screen flashes. I recorded a video showing how it looks (warning: 88MB): https://dl.dropbox.com/u/407948/20120902_114804.mp4 I also noticed that the problem disappears on low power profiles of the GPU, but it is then to slow to deal with compiz responsively so I consider it a weak workaround. Video showing how it works in both low and high power profile (warning: 97MB): https://dl.dropbox.com/u/407948/20120902_115021.mp4 Note: the same happens with Gnome Shell instead of Unity or even with KDE. 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' klakier@lich:~$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Release: 12.04 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' klakier@lich:~$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-radeon xserver-xorg-video-radeon: Zainstalowana: 1:6.99.99+git1208201032.cdf522~gd~p Kandydująca: 1:6.99.99+git1208201032.cdf522~gd~p Tabela wersji: *** 1:6.99.99+git1208201032.cdf522~gd~p 0 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/oibaf/graphics-drivers/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages 3) What you expected to happen Desktop working properly in any resolution supported by hardware 4) What happened instead Glitches on the screen in 1920x1080 (and only in this one) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: xorg 1:7.6+12ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-29.46-generic 3.2.24 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-29-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu12 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, vpswitch, snap, mousepoll, resize, place, move, wall, grid, regex, imgpng, session, gnomecompat, animation, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, workarounds, scale, expo, ezoom, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz Date: Sun Sep 2 11:54:25 2012 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: precise DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox, 4.1.12, 3.2.0-27-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 4.1.12, 3.2.0-29-generic, x86_64: installed EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV620 [Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series] [1002:95c4] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device [1179:ff1c] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Release amd64 (20120425) MachineType: TOSHIBA Satellite A300 ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.2.0-29-generic root=UUID=184954ec-ef0e-4822-bca9-b80d1ae738ff ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 02/13/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: INSYDE dmi.bios.version: 1.80 dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: Base Board Product Name dmi.board.vendor: Intel Corp. dmi.board.version: Base Board Version dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 1 dmi.chassis.vendor: Chassis Manufacturer dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnINSYDE:bvr1.80:bd02/13/2009:svnTOSHIBA:pnSatelliteA300:pvrPSAG4E-03201RPL:rvnIntelCorp.:rnBaseBoardProductName:rvrBaseBoardVersion:cvnChassisManufacturer:ct1:cvrChassisVersion: dmi.product.name: Satellite A300 dmi.product.version: PSAG4E-03201RPL dmi.sys.vendor: TOSHIBA version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.39+git1209011433.92fd0c~gd~p version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 8.1~git1206081121.640409~gd~p version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 8.1~git1206081121.640409~gd~p version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.7 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1.2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.99.99+git1208201032.cdf522~gd~p version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.20.5+git1209011518.f83780~gd~p version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.1+git1208201032.3aa9a2~gd~p To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/1044949/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
