Ah, the bug I filed last time was #1261440 and it was a different
situation (scanning failed in the middle of a page).

It's the same office scanner, though (HP Color LaserJet 2840).

The fact that simple-scan failed to scan the page several times in a row
and then succeeded after I restarted simple-scan (without touching the
USB cable or any scanner buttons) makes me suspect a software bug rather
than a hardware quirk. If not in simple-scan itself, then maybe some
global state in libsane didn't get reset properly.

(I'm sure there are multiple bugs that interfere with my scanning. I
had situations in the past where restarting simple-scan didn't help
either.)
