Martin's request for PDF documentation caught the eye of XSL-FO expert Greg Ludington, who emailed me this morning with a first draft of the Struts User Guide in PDF. With his permission, I've placed it on the draft website, and you can see it here:

http://svn.apache.org/builds/struts/maven/trunk/site-test/pdf/userGuidev0_1.pdf

Any oddities in section numbering and formatting are not his fault. :) Our
XML docs are very inconsistent-- Greg has provided a long (and probably
still incomplete) list of problems he found while writing the XSL. As part
of the website conversion, I'll attempt to address those so he won't have to
work quite so hard on the transformation.

Since we will be using the Jakarta Site xml doc format
(http://jakarta.apache.org/site/jakarta-site2.html), Greg's work should be
useful to many projects, not just Struts. If anyone is on jakarta-general,
it might be worth checking just to make sure we're not duplicating effort,
but a quick search of their mailing list didn't turn up anything recent
about PDF generation.

We've been talking about how best to leverage work that's already done--
possibly transforming the Jakarta xml docs into docbook, and from there
generating the both the HTML and PDF. (This applies to the documentation,
not the multiproject website.) Other suggestions are welcome.

Thanks, Greg! We're looking forward to your contributions. :)
