I was referring to what files are resolved to as being messy, not what we allow as an input. We cannot control the input (although we can recommend).
Do not remove anything that already works. Just modify what we have so that the PDF images work the same way as the HTML images.
Which, if I understand everything correctly means just strip leading "../../" from image URLs. WARNING: I'm rushing so dont assume I do understand correctly.
