Similar changes applied to 1.2 branch in rev 505440. I had to downgrade xalan
to 2.4.1 from 2.7.0 to get the tck to pass. I didn't try xalan 2.5.0, 2.5.1,
or 2.6.0, I'll try to find some time to see if any of those versions work.
