Paul McMahan commented on GERONIMO-3300:
----------------------------------------

Since dojo 0.9 is incompatible with 0.4.x and is so technically different from
it I think we should try to get dojo 0.9 into the geronimo 2.0 release if at
all possible, even if it means going with beta level code. I agree that using
a beta could be risky. But because of the forward and backwards
incompatibility situation between the 0.9 and 0.4.x apis dojo developers will
have to choose which level of dojo to program against, and I believe they would
almost always go with 0.9 since it's the future of dojo and ajax and the 0.4.x
stream will be stabilized

If we can't get 0.9 into the 2.0 release then I agree that upgrading to it in a
maintenance stream (2.0.1) could be disruptive to geronimo users unless we also
leave 0.4.x in there. That could be accomplished by deploying the new version
of dojo to a different context, say /dojo.0.9, or maybe /dojo/0.9 would be
more clever... yeah I think that works better. The problem that this approach
would create is the extra server footprint since the full dojo library ain't
small.

Whatever approach we take I think it would be prudent to go ahead and change
the context of that dojo library that's already in the server from /dojo to
/dojo/0.4.3 so we have more flexibility later. We can do something clever so
that apps that reference /dojo/dojo.js will get the most recent version of dojo
that's available in geronimo, whatever that happens to be.

> The new Dojo 0.9 Beta was just released.
> It will reduce the footprint of the main dojo.js to under 50k - But will
> require that some of the console
> screens to be reworked because the widget system was completely redesigned
> and is incompatible.
