I had a look at our heartbeat implementation in Qpid but realised that
it wasn't terribly self-contained. I think it would be only feasible
to add it as a subclass of IoHandler which set it all up. I will see
if I can create a class usable by others and post it to the list.


No problem.  We could probably make it as a filter.
