I should read my mails more often 8) Just figured out

    SDKHOSTNAME=unknown
}
linux-g++{
    SDKHOSTNAME=$$system(hostname)
}
contains(SDKHOSTNAME , "SailfishSDK"){
    message("Heureka! Running on the MerSDK VM")
}
else{
    message("running somewhere else")
}
