We plan an Axapta ERP Implementation. Due to a pretty complex IT
infrastructure, Axapta will need to integrate with several
applications and databases. We are considering two types of
integration:
Via OLEDB:
We plan to consolidate the relevant data from several databases in a
MSSQL database. Axapta will access this external database in order
to:
- import some of the data in its own database
- access some data which is also used by other applications (extra
information over our customers).
By consolidating data we will be able to gradually replace the old
systems and migrate the data into Axapta database. Axapta will than
become the MASTER for most of this information.
Via de Commerce Gateway
We are involved in a B2B relation with our customers and partners.
This is based on EDI. We have a message broker in house which
implements this messaging infrastructure. Unfortunately, it does not
have an Axapta adapter so we think of choosing one of the following
integration methods:
- place BizTalk between the Commerce Gateway and our Message Broker
- Our Message Broker will "listen" to a shared directory
where the
Commerce Gateway should place XML files (I do not know yet if this is
a realistic solution).
Can you please comment on our approach and give us some tips or best
practises?
Further I have some questions:
- I suppose that a "live" OLEDB connection to an external
database
will slow down Axapta. Do you have experience with that? Is this
something that should be considered an implementation risk?
- How complex is the BizTalk integration? Besides the typical
mappings in BizTalk will this require lot of Axapta work ? Is the
integration straight forward or you really have to "play
hard" to get
it working?
Thank you in advance for your reply,
FP
