Dia and Inkscape have different target audiences in mind. On the other hand, Inkscape is good for "polishing" Dia diagrams for publication. While Inkscape does have a basic "connector line" feature, it's not playing catch-up with Dia. Dia, while very technically capable, producing clean, presentation quality output is not one of its strong points. I use both and like them both for their target uses.
