ALE in ham radio went from an experimental communication method, to mainstream, over about 5 or 6 years in North America. It is now well-understood by many operators, and has become a reliable system for hams to use on a 24 hour basis. As ALE is catching on in other parts of the world, there is also now a chance for operators to use it for DXing and other international pursuits. But ALE not just a way for individual ops to call each other... it is now becoming a "Net of Nets" for EMCOMM groups to interoperate.
