Bryan, that's great. It's been pointed out more than once that we're discussing the issues outside of context, and without examples. This really helps. We should do more of it. The first dimension that I would add to your designs would be colour. You are using (I think) standard html buttons, and elements of additional design that many websites use can impact usability.
