I have the same issue.
When I open the exported file with Excel2007, I've got the same error but the
file is correctly displayed.
However, I don't manage to parse the exported file with open-source Excel
parser.
I tried FastExcel, JExcel and OpenXLS but the file is unreadable everytime.
Each Excel parser throws the exception "bad file format".
So I think there is an issue with the export method.
I use a simple Excel export.
My displaytag.properties :
export.types=excel
export.pdf=false
export.xml=false
export.csv=false
export.excel=true
export.banner=<div class="exportlinks"> Exporter vers: {0} </div>
