No, but it is free open source.

I don't think it's ostrich-head-in-the-sand. I think it's avoiding a
whole host of issues that people will then run into with session and state
management, so that then discussions about displaytag become all about
configuration, managing and clearing session state, etc. Look at all the
problems people run into that are just displaytag specific and then add in
people's issues that only surround them using displaytag, such as getting
a list to the tag, handling form submission data, etc., stuff that's JSP
or Java and have nothing to do with displaytag. That's precisely the
problem the developers were trying to avoid.
And it's not totally atypical, but it's also something that can be done
differently to avoid the issue. What you're saying is that because
displaytag doesn't do what you want it to in precisely the way you want it
to do it that there's a problem. But it's not an insurmountable problem
by any means. I've done precisely what you're talking about doing
repeatedly without having to modify displaytag at all. It's simply not
that hard.
Now, if you still really really want some kind of state management in
there, go ahead and write it up and submit it as a change request. Again,
free open source. I've never bothered to do it because I've never had a
problem managing it myself.
