I find the "They're trusted, so let them enter it themselves" argument
frustrating.

As someone above said, we're dealing with sites that potentially have
a very large number of users. In cases where there's more than a few
users, it becomes a hassle, a source of errors, and a time waster.
Automatically filling in the user will no doubt make the process of
creating rows more convenient and take less time, so why not do it?

On that note, instead of referring to "magic values pulled out of thin
air", why not create a standard, clean, documented way to do this so
that the value isn't whatsoever magic or pulled out of thin air?
