There's a package of PostgreSQL called postgresplus that comes with postgis, pgadmin etc. It's pretty easy to set up on os x: http://www.enterprisedb.com/products/postgres_plus/overview.do Installing psycopg2 after I've installed postgresplus has always worked for me with minimum effort, see this: http://blog.jonypawks.net/2008/06/20/installing-psycopg2-on-os-x/
