Politics in Cyberspace -
Liberal Democracy in a Global Information Society
[Dec 8 and 9 - Gummersbach, Germany]

The digital revolution leads to profound changes in our societies, in
the role of the state, in strategies and forms of political action
and opinion making. The shift of competencies along the lines of more
subsidiarity and federalism within in a increasingly self-conscious
civil society is an inevitable development of post-industrial
society, which has to be confronted with a positive and creative
attitude. The structures and processes of opinion and decision making
in "cyber-democracy" will change fundamentally, so that political
parties have to part with conventional methods and strategies if they
want to survive within this new context.

International experts and politicians from countries which are in the
forefront of using new technologies with the necessary corresponding
mental disposition, such as North America, the Scandinavian
countries, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom will participate in
this international conference to debate the following questions and
will try to point to possible solutions and actions for our societies
and its political institutions:

- How will the power relations change in a digital civil society?
-
- How will political culture develop in the evolving knowledge
society?
-
- Which kind of political strategies and organisational methodology
do political parties need, to achieve their democratic mission?
-
- How will political communications change and which are the possible
effects ?
-
- How can freedom of opinion and of the press be safeguarded and
state censorship be avoided?
-
- Will the defence of human and civil rights be improved in our
globalised "cyber world" ?
