Tried the 'sane_debug....' line; results: lide50.pnm = 0bytes: lide50.log = 'Error: Invalid argument', no other info listed. To me that means some operating script is giving the wrong info when trying to scan. Have gone to 'bugs.launchpad' site and added request for fix. As an aside the HP PSC 1317 works fine so it MUST be the backend script that's broken in 9.10. Thanks for your help, will await if I get any replies, hope it's soon as Staples are doing a HP Photosmart printer/scanner for half price trade-in (£98). Have a querry with HP if this machine (CD054) works on Linux as it's not listed in Openprinting or HP site. It sounds good for photo's as that's my main use on colour.
