Karl,

may I suggest you look into the blue LED kits for the panel lights rather than the new foil and incandescent bulbs. I changed my 4C and 7 line to these LED kits and they look great, generate less heat and consume much less power. I purchased the kits on line and they were very reasonable, try a search and you will find the supplier. Of course if you are a strict Drake purist, ( and I hope you are) you may want to stay with the original configuration.

Regards,

W4DL Mike

Hi All,

Just wanted to let you all know the L-7 has sold. Thanks much. Very 73.

Hi All,

Now that the L-7 is gone, anyone on the list have an L-75 you might be
looking to part with? From owning one several years back, I seem to
remember that the band switch and filter caps were weak points. I would
want to be assured both were in sound condition in any L-75 I might
purchase.

Thanks much for reading and very 73.

This is a minor issue but is there a cure for excessive 'bouncing' of
the S-Meter? It seems to work normally but with say an S9 signal it
seems to 'bounce' excessivly. Maybe the AVC is not as Slow as it
should be, it is working though, OR is it possible that the Meter
itself has lost some of its 'damping' ability?

My TR-4C's s-meter points to S-9 under no signal condition. Adjusting the
sensitivity and the zero pot won't correct it. I also noticed its reduced
sensitivity compared to other Drakes that I have. The s-meter moves as expected when RF gain is lowered. Checked/replaced all tubes. I also checked the RF gain pot and it's fine. Resistances and voltages on the V13 12AX7 ?pins seem okay. I
would appreciate any suggestions.

Check Pin 2 of V17 for resistance to ground (270 Ohms) and voltage ~7.5 VDC.

It's 290 ohm and the following are the voltage levels.
pin1 0.2v
pin2 12v
pin5 237v
pin6 246v

Probably I should check the R's around the meter as the pin6 voltage seems a bit high. Any other suggestion?

Thanks

OK. ?Most likely problem is a leaky C212. ?That Cathode (pin 1) voltage
is way too high. ?the stage is drawing ~42 mA rather than the 28 mA it
should be. ?Check R185, and disconnect C212. ?The Cathode voltage should
drop to around 7.5 VDC. ?R92 is about 7% high, so in tolerance, but ...
I suggest replacing R92 and C135 while you're in there!

The Screen (pin 6) is also too high, but that may be a function of a
damaged tube from overcurrent. ?It's possible that you are seeing AC
ripple voltage if the Twist-Lok cap is original. ?You can check for AC
voltage on Pin 6 with AF GAIN full CCW. ?If you read several volts AC
here you'll need to replace C145. ?Replacements for the caps are
available from www.hayseedhamfest.com.

Garey
Thanks I put C115 47uf on my parts order. Actually there are several
.47uf's under there so think I will change all of them and the 8uf one
under the Can Cap. Changing some of these helped in the R4B for sure.

I've had one other TR4 where it appeared that the mechanical dampening of
that meter (however that might be implemented ) was faulty. It bounced
much like yours seems to.

I've not spent the time required staring at how those things are made to
determine how it might go bad... but they apparently do.

Good morning,

I am going to swap outaged blue filter foils at my TR7 and RV7 as well. I
found that foils from LEE could be a good solution. I am uncertain if just
blue #079, dark blue #119 or medium blue #132 - or any other - would fit best.
See the following link for details:

http://www.zilz.de/grosse-rollen-bereich-blau-c-291_1663_1693.html

Has someone experienced what exact colour should be used?
