It does appear to be TCL related, so older X servers probably 
wouldn't show it.

With the environment variable set as Michel suggested, the main
problem disappears.  The other 'problem' I saw seems to just be a
visual effect rather than a bug.  I don't generally run tuxracer 
ever, so I never really noticed it before.  ;o)  I think this can 
be written off as a tuxracer bug now.
