I recently made a change to the Sword deposit forms used by some of the LCoNZ
IRRs around this -- we now use Apache Tika for format detection. The code I
wrote won't really help for the DSpace submission process (our deposit forms
are written in PHP and we're just calling the command-line format detection
tool in Apache Tika). However, I just wanted to comment that Apache Tika is
working well for us, and since it's in Java it should be relatively easy to
integrate with DSpace.
