I'd still recommend doing it manually unless you have over a hundred such collections.

However, if you do have such a large number, look at the "template_item_id" column of the "collection" table. This should point to the "item_id" of a template item for that collection. That template item would have the metadata values you need pre-filled. Please, bear in mind that I never actually tried it and don't try it without doing a full database backup first.
