At 10:54 PM 9/5/2004, Samual Acorn, had this to say :
Windoze? I prefer Linux thank you.. btw, i use my one token mac (dug out of a trashcan) as a dumb (vt102) terminal; so i dont plan to do any repairs/upgrades of this particular toy computer... i was going to use it as a portable mp3 player but the lack of a headphone jack and floppy drive kinda ruined that one... also thought of using it as an image viewer (digital pic frame) but the limit of a 640x400 res when using 16bpp messed that up too... also thought of using it to just surf the web but a lack of an ethernet port or ablility to add one (or even the ability to run even netscrape 3.0 at a decent speed)took that one away too... so i guess i have a state of the art dumb serial terminal that can run cute little screensavers.... but i thought it would have been nice to disable cpu cycling so that the screensavers would run smoother... but hey.. its an LCD...

PS and i already have an 8+ yr old PC laptop that hasnt needed any parts... (it runs linux.. and has a handy dandy internal floppy drive to install it with)
Which PB is it?
The 16bpp resolution is nota problem unless you don't want to resize your images. Others have turned various PB's into digital frames with ease (YMMV).
Use iCab. If this is a Duo series, you simply need an etherdock. Yes they are hard to come by but once you get one, you never let go. :)
As long as it is plugged into the wall there should never be a need to turn on cycling. AFAIK cycling is not possible on some of the older PBs.
All my Macs (except the two iMacs) have floppies, even the PBs.
