This is somewhat off topic, but I don't like to leave incorrect information out there so.....
I wanted to post a correction to some remarks I had made earlier about my experiences with the reading DVD-R discs written on the Sony DRU-500A with my Pioneer DVD-116 DVD-ROM drive. I had at one point stated that I had some read errors on these discs that I had attributed to writing discs at higher than their rated speed. In fact, it was all in my head. It seems that reading from /dev/cdrom (as in dd if=/dev/cdrom) always returns 0 (EOF) immediately with the Pioneer DVD-116 and a DVD-R (but not a DVD+R) disc. However, this is a driver or software problem as it goes away if I use the ide-scsi driver instead of the default CD driver. Also, I've done some experimentation with writing DVD-R discs using the latest dvd+rw-tools and am pleased to report so far that I have had no compatibility problems. I have also verified that the DVD-R reading problems I have with my Pioneer reader (which has fewer problems with the latest firmware but still has some problems) happen with DVD-R seemingly regardless of where it is written. -- Jay Berkenbilt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://www.ql.org/q/ _______________________________________________ Dvdrtools-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/dvdrtools-users
