4K, AZERBAIJAN. Axel, DL6KVA, now active as 4K0CW from Baku until August
17th, was heard this past week on 17 meters CW. Watch around 18075-80 kHz
after 1130z. QSL via DL6KVA (Bureau OK).
7Q, MALAWI. Harry, G0JMU, will once again be back in Malawi from August
10th for about 2 months as 7Q7HB. Look for him to be very active on 30

9Y, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO. Look for DL1MGB to be active as 9Y4TBG in the
WAEDC SSB Contest (September 13-14th) and the IARU Region 1 Field Day
SSB Contest as a Single-Op. QSL via DL4MDO.
BQ9P, PRATAS ISLAND. The BQ9P 2003 Web site is now available at:

C5, THE GAMBIA. Holger/DL5XAT and Matthias/DL5OB will be active from here
October 21st and November 2nd. Callsign(s) is/are not yet known, but they
plan to be active in the CQ World Wide DX SSB Contest (October 25-26th)
as a Multi-2 entry. QSL via DL5XAT. Outside of the contest, they will be
active mainly on CW.
DU2, PHILIPPINES. Look for PA0CYW to be active as PA0CYW/DU2 in the CQ
World Wide DX SSB Contest (October 25-26th) as a Single-Op/All Band entry.
He will be active 5 days before and after the contest using the same
callsign. QSL via his home callsign (Bureau is OK).
DXCC LISTING. The "ARRL Letter" reminds everyone: "DXCC Annual List deadline
approaching: The ARRL DXCC Desk says the deadline to submit applications for
the 2003 DXCC Annual List is rapidly approaching. Applications must be
postmarked no later than September 30, 2003. For more information, contact

F6, FRANCE. A team of members from the F6KNL Radio Club of Cenon (REF33)
will be active on Oiseaux Island (Arcachon Bay, Sud Ouest France) as
F6KNL/p from Friday, August 15th (0800-1700 local time). Activity will
be on 40/20/15/10/2 meters CW/SSB. QSL via Laurent, F8BBL, by the Bureau
(100%) or direct. Reference numbers of island: DIFM - AT-028 and Grid
SQ: IN94JQ.
H40, TEMOTU PROVINCE. Kazuo, P29KM, informs OPDX that on Saturday, August
9th, they (Dan - H40V and JA1PBV; Kazuo - H40H and P29KM) were in Honiara
and will arrive at Lata, Temotu Province (H40) Sunday, August 10th, as
long as their Solair flight is OK/on schedule. They will be there for one
week, leaving Lata on August 17th. They are planning to operate CW, PSK3,
RTTY, SSB, SSTV on 6-160(!) meter bands there. Their activity depends on
location and the local power. As this was being typed, activity by H40H
was on 18070 and 14014 kHz; H40V was on 10107 and 14083 kHz. QSL info is

IOTA MICROLITE TOUR 2003. Vincenzo, IZ0FKE, a member of the ARI Frascati
DX Team ( http://www.arifrascati.it ) plans to activate the following
islands and is calling the operation the "Microlite IOTA Tour". He will
use a Yaesu FT100D and a short one G5RV antenna 40-10 meters (and possibly
a simple monoband dipole for 20 meters). He will operate first as OH0/IZ0FKE
from a cottage on the Baltic Sea from Aland Islands (EU-002 - Finstrom
is the location - the first Italian operating from Aland Island) from
August 16-23rd. He will then be active as OH1/IZ0FKE from a private home
located on a small island in the Lansi-Suomi (Turku) Province Group (IOTA
EU-096) from August 23-27th. Acvtivity will be mainly SSB, especially on
20/17/10 meters. QSL via IZ0FMA. Vincenzo will use a Photo Cellular Phone
(largely used in Europe), so everyday he will post pictures on the 425dxn
Web page. He will also use a cam-recorder to record some movies to post
later online on his Web site at: http://www.iz0fke.com
IOTA NEWS...........................
AS-060. Look for 6L0NJ/4 to be active from Choyal Island from August
15-17th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters, including the WARC
bands, on SSB/CW/RTTY/PSK31. QSL Manager is DS4AEN. A log
search will be availale at: http://www.dx.or.kr
AS-085. Operators Kim/HL1OYF, Kwon/HL1SRJ, Ryu/DS4NYE and possibly
others will be active from Soan Island between August 14-17th.
Activity will be barefoot on 40-10 meters CW/SSB into a
vertical pharastic array. QSL via HL1OYF.
AS-101. Choon, E20HHK, will go to work in the south of Thailand. He
will use E20HHK/P on Samui Island from August 14-17th. After
his operation he will operate as E20HHK/8 in the SEANET Contest.

KH7K, KURE ATOLL. Kimo Chun, KH7U, has informed OPDX that he is organizing
a DXpedition to Kure Atoll. He states, "Kure is in demand within the top
20 or so around the world and even as high as number 2 in Europe by some
accounts. We hope to provide many QSOs and cards to as many people as
possible with special emphasis on Europe as they have the highest need.
We are hoping to be on the air for two full weekends (in EU) and the
intervening week. If possible, we will end with participation in the
CQWW-SSB contest. Operation on other modes and bands during the contest
is intended." Here are some of the details:
Team Leaders: Kimo Chun, KH7U, and Pat Guerin, NH6UY. Experienced
operators - many from Kingman K5K trip.
Tentative operating period: Latter half of October 2003. With attempt
at participation in CQWW-SSB.
Team size: Between 12 and 15.
Stations: 4 to 6 plus 6m. Most with linears. Icom will be providing
equipment.
Antennas: Force 12 Vertical Dipole Arrays; HF Yagis; 2 Titanex V-160E
Verticals; M2 6M Yagi.
Modes: CW/SSB/RTTY. Other modes under consideration.
Satellite: Under consideration.
Transportation: Air and Boat (still in negotiations).
QSL: A manager will be announced.
Web Page: Will announce if they have one. They will not likely have
"on-line" logs.
Target: The emphasis will be Europe but they will be working the world.
Call Sign: To be determined.
LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY.........................

** International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend (ILLW), August 16-17th **
Cory/N1WON and David/WA4ET will be active as KG4LH, from Guantanamo Bay,
Cuba (NA-015) and Windward Lighthouse (GTM-01), August 16/17th for the
International Lighthouse Weekend. Activity will be on 80-6 meters SSB,
RTTY and PSK, including 5 MHz USB. Please QSL KG4LH to N1WON or WA4ET,
as listed in QRZ. Reminder: Please do not send cards for this event
to the bureau. There is no KG4 bureau for Guantanamo Bay. Please QSL
as directed to receive QSL cards.
Operators from Gainesville, FL, area ham clubs and the University of
Florida will activate the Cedar Key Lighthouse (WLH# 2741, USA #745)
on Seahorse Key (IOTA NA-076) in Levy County using the call W4L during
the International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend, August 16-17th. There
will be SSB/CW activity mainly on the HF bands with a possibility of
some 6 meters. This is only the second time that a radio operation has
been allowed from the Cedar Key lighthouse at Seahorse Key which is a
closed wildlife sanctuary. QSL via W4DFU: University of Florida,
Box J-12 JHMHC, Gainesville, FL 32610 USA.
From Eagle Harbor, Michigan, look for the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse
(USA-253) to be activated in the ILLW, August 15-16th, using the special
1x1 callsign, K8E. Modes of operation include HF/VHF, CW/SSB, FM
Satellite and possible HF digital. Collectors of ARLHS numbers can get
credit for three upon request: Eagle Harbor Lighthouse USA-253,
Front Range Light USA-254 and Rear Range Light USA-255. QSL via bureau

Berkin, TA3J/4, will be active only on SSB on 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters
from Antalya Bababurnu Lighthouse (TUR-???) (KM56JU) on August 16-17th
for the International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend. QSL via his home
callsign, direct (SASE+New IRC only, no greenstamp please) or bureau.

Look for VK3BV to be active from the Macquarie Lighthouse (ARLHS AUS-105,
Grid Loc. QF56), Australia's first lighthouse. Activation will be between
0300-0700z on August 16th. QSL via QRZ.com.
Look for ZV7AA to be active on all bands and modes from Tamandare
Lighthouse (ARLHS BRA-102, DFB PE-07) August 15-17th, including an
entry in the International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend (August 16-17th).
Activity will be on all bands 160-10 meter SSB, CW, RTTY and PSK31.

CDXC contributes around 4,000 USD each year to DXpeditions and has
supported 84 DXpeditions since 1992. The club also supports IREF in
recognition of the interest in IOTA activities. There are now over 600

OJ0, MARKET REEF. The QLF DX Team will be active from Market Reef (EU-053)
as OJ0LA between September 19-26th. This operation is good for the following
Lighthouse Award's: ARLHS MAR-001 and WLH-0542. Operators are: LA5UKA,
LA6MP, LA8AJA, LA8SDA and LA9VDA. Also, OH0RJ will join the group as OJ0RJ.
They are expected to be active on all bands, CW/SSB/RTTY and will be
looking especially for NA and JA stations. The plan is to be active in
the SAC CW Contest with one station. Due to possible bad WX conditions
in the fall, they might use an expensive helicopter. They need financial

PA-PH, NETHERLANDS (New Prefixes To Be Heard!). As of August 4th, we
should begin to hear new prefixes on all bands from The Netherlands.
JanJaap, PG7V, informs OPDX that all prefixes from PA-PH can be used now,
choice of prefix and suffix is free. Suffix has to be 1-3 letters long. PD
is novice (2m/70cm), PE and PH is VHF and higher. You can find a list of
all Dutch prefixes on his Web site. He is also keeping a list of new

Saturday, August 2nd, have been answered and are in the mail.
Alex, RW3RN, reports that he made a mistake last week. QSL 5B4AGM via
RW3RN (only for 2003 EU HF Championship QSOs, not the 2003 IOTA
Contest). He is sorry for the mistake.

recent activities by CS4B (EU-040, QSL via CS1GDX) and CS5F (EU-145,
Lighthouse Cabo de Santa Maria, QSL via HB9CRV/CT3FN ) were updated at

George, K8GG, has recently sent QSLs via the ARRL outgoing bureau to
all non-US contacts from PJ2/K8GG (Jan 2003), and KP2/K8GG (Jan 2001).
PJ9/K8GG QSLs for all non-US contacts were previously sent via the
bureau. All direct QSLs with return postage were answered within a
week of being received. There is no need to answer these bureau QSLs.
U.S. stations needing a QSL card can send direct with SASE or use a
forwarding service for these callsigns. The address is correct on all
web sites such as Buckmaster, E-ham.net and QRZ.com. George still has
logs for K8GG/VP2M (Oct 1986), K8GG/PA (Dec 1987 & Jan 1988), J3/K8GG
(Jan-Feb 1990), VP2M/K8GG (Oct 1986) and P4/K8GG & P40GG (Jan-Feb 1994)
and will answer direct and bureau QSL requests.
Nilay, TA3YJ, informs OPDX that she sent QSL cards for TA3YJ, TA3YJ/0,
TA3YJ/3, TA3YJ/4, TA3YJ/LH, SV1/TA3YJ, LZ2/TA3YJ, TA3J, TA3J/0, TA3J/1,
TA3J/3, TA3J/4, TA3J/LH, SV1/TA3J, LZ1/TA3J, LZ2/TA3J, YM3BU, YM3ATA,
YM3SV, YM75TA, YM21TA, YM3LZ/WPX2000 and YM3LZ/WAE2000 to the QSL Bureaus
of China, Iraq, Quatar, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uzbekistan direct on
August 6th.
Alan, VK4AAR, informs OPDX, "I wish to advise that logs for the stations
for which I am the manager are still open with the exception of YJ8AA.
I have received information that many people have been sending QSLs via
the bureau for these stations. It is only possible DIRECT. People can
still send to me direct (PO Box 421, Gatton 4343, Australia with S.A.E.
and greenstamp)."
DX stations VK4AAR manages are: C21RH, P29RH, KH2VM, V63PD, VI0ANARE,

the near future).

SPECIAL EVENT. Look for special event station TM5GAP to be active from
September 6-14th, from GAP/TALLARD airfield during the "World Parachuting
Championship". Activity will be on the air on all HF bands, 6 meters and
2 meters. The Department of Hautes Alpes hams are awaiting for your QSO.
Those who will be vacationning near this area are welcome to the station
settled on the airfield. QSL per operator's instructions.
SRM 2003. The Scottish-Russian ARS introduces Scottish-Russian Marathon to
encourage activity by all radio amateurs worldwide to contact areas of
Scotland and Russia. This is purely an activity week and will enable
participants to pursue the CAOSA Award Scheme, WAB Scotland Award Scheme,
IOSA Award Scheme, SOTA Award Scheme, ARLHS Award Scheme, RDA Award Scheme,
RRA Award Scheme, RIIA Award Scheme, RMA Award Scheme, RFFA Award Scheme,
RLHA Award Scheme, RABA Award Scheme, and provide an interest in contacting
different areas of Scotland and Russia. The event is to be held on the full
second week in August each year. The 2003 Marathon will start at 0000z
on Monday, August 11th, and last until 2400z on Sunday, August 17th.
Activity is encouraged on all HF bands by individual licensees and club
stations or the use of a special event callsign from radio amateurs in

T33, BANABA ISLAND (OOOPSS!! Correction). There are two corrections to
last week's bulletin (OPDX.621). The most important one is the QSL Manager.
Your editor misread the announcement, please note that the QSL Manager
for the T33C operation is F5CWU and not PA5ET. Also, the vessel's name
is "Te Taobe" and not "Te Toobe". Remember, the international team of 20
operators will be active as T33C during the first two weeks of April 2004
(April 4-16th). They will have 6 HF stations on the air (3 CW and 3 SSB),
plus a separate 6 meter/AO-40 and separate HF digital mode station. Activity
will be on 160-6 meters, satellite, CW, SSB, RTTY, PSK and some SSTV. For

TZ, MALI (Update). The TZ6RD Team announced that everything is "OK" for
their operation this week. They also announced that Angel, EA1QF, President
of URE (the Spanish National Bureau) and a very well known Dxpeditoner
has joined their Mali 2003 team. They state he is a great SSB operator.
The TZ6RD team is now confirmed and is expected to be active this week
between August 12-21st from Bamako, Mali. The operators confirmed are:
XE1L, N6TQS, EA1QF, EA5KM, EA5RD, EA5RM and EA5XX. They also announced
their PILOT STATION will be Max, I8NHJ, and you can reach him at:

The new and tiny light-weight Spanish-made amplifiers had been tested by
EA5RM last week, and they seem to put out 400 watts. They are going to
feed vertical, dipoles in this all bands, all modes operation. The QSL

Z3100, MACEDONIA. Vlado, Z35M now signing Z3100M (QSL via his original
callsign Z35M), wants to remind everyone that in celebration of 100 years
of Macedonian statehood and 100 years since the Ilinden Uprising (August 2,
1903, against Othoman's slavery, and formation of Republic of Krushevo, the
first Republic in the Blacans), Z3 stations will be active with the special
event prefix "Z3100" between August 1-31st. Please refer to OPDX.621 for
a list of stations.
ZK1/S, SOUTH COOK ISLANDS. "Team Vertical" is on the DX trail again. This
time they are headed to Rarotonga, South Cook Islands (OC-013), and will
be active between August 18-27th. Operators will be: Bill/K6KM (ZK1TOO),
Mark/AG9A (ZK1KAT), Ralph/K9ZO (ZK1ZOO) and Kenny/K2KW (ZK1TTT). Activity
is limited to 40-10 meters on CW/SSB. Two stations will be active when
snorkeling permits, using 2 x Elecraft K2/100, and Force 12 vertical
antennas on the beach. The station is on the northeast side of the island,
with water paths to all the major population centers. The team will make
extra efforts to work Europeans, since ZK1/s is a difficult path for them.

ZM4, NEW ZEALAND (Special Event). Look for ZM4A to be activated during
the month of August by the Otago branch of the New Zealand Association of
Radio Transmitters to celebrate its 75th anniversary. Activity so far has
been on 14205 kHz (also 14219, and 14230 kHz SSTV) between 0330-0600z.

KB8NW/OPDX/BARF80 receive credit. To contribute DX info, call BARF-80 BBS
online at 440-237-8208 28.8k/14400/9600/2400/1200 and leave a message with
the Sysop or send via InterNet Mail to:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] - OR - [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Use the VOICE or FAX answering machine at 440-237-8208 which shares the
same phone line as BARF-80 BBS using a data/fax/phone switch. To access:
1) Dial Number. 2) Wait for first ring (the second ring should be a false
ring from the fax/data switch box) and then dial four quick ones ("1111").
(NOTE: Some FAX machines that send single "BEEPS" every second will not
have to do this step.) 3) The phone will pick up and after the "BEEP"
leave your voice message or FAX.
