I have found that to be true also. DXBase is a very resource intensive program. It takes forever to load and once it does, it's very slow. This contributed to my decision to go with DX4Win several years ago.
In contrast, DX4Win is a very efficient program, works well while other things are running, and even 5.03 does everything I *need*. My expectation is that the new version will be excellent also, and will be well worth the wait.
