There are many of us who use the same solution as Mike described - periodically (could be after every QSO!) import the WSJT-X file. One way to make that easier is to create a shortcut to the WSJT-X ADIF file on your desktop. Once you navigate to the desktop the first time, the import window will open subsequently on your desktop. Just click the shortcut and your FT8/FT4 etc QSOs are imported with the proper mode designator.
