Subject: Environment of the Northwest:  An Archival View

The 2002 joint annual conference of Northwest Archivists and the Northwest
Oral History Association will be held at Oregon State University in
Corvallis, Oregon, April 25-27, with the theme: The Environment of the
Northwest:  An Archival View.  Archives and oral history topics will be
discussed in the context of the natural environment, natural resources,
cultural and natural landscape and the political landscape of the
Northwest. Pre-conference workshops on April 25th are Copyright: The
Archivist and the Law (co-sponsored with the Society of American
Archivists); Oral History: The Basics presented by Charles T. Morrissey;
and half-day workshops on Archival Theory and Applied Archival
Techniques.  Two half-day field sessions will also be offered on April
25th, focusing on botanical collections and records in the morning and
forestry and related cultural resource records in the afternoon.

Conference sessions on Friday will focus on digital collections; oral
history for natural resource history; sustainable recordkeeping; archeology
records; Native American records; archival issues pertaining to superfund
site research; National History Day; archival resources that document the
history of wildlife refuges and conservation; and history and sources
documenting the energy crisis.  The plenary session speaker will be William
G. Robbins, Oregon State University Distinguished Professor of History,
whose work has focused on the environmental history of the western U.S.
