It looks like it hung (which is bad), but that's not really the case. Windows 2000 has a similar issue on a lot of hardware. It would be nice if, when you press the power down button, ldm displayed a "power down" popup -- that would make it clear what had happened. This is also how windows deals with it, putting up a "it's now safe to power off" popup on the screen.
