Bob,
I've successfully used a MFJ-4416B boost regulator with my K2 and K3.  I
started using it with my K2 as after 3 or so hours on a 40 AH battery I would
start getting reports of distorted audio on phone.  With the booster I could
get another hour or two out of the battery.  After I purchased a K3 I used it
with it as well.  Somewhere along the line I also purchased a 70 AH battery and
the booster worked well with that also.
I never received any reports of noise on my audio with the booster in use and
did not find any noise or unusual birdies from the booster.  Not to say it is a
clean unit, just that I never had any reason to suspect it was generating RF
noise.
If you purchase the MFJ-4416 be sure you get the "B" version.  The previous
version would sometimes blow an internal fuse if you "double clutched" the PTT
within 3-4 seconds of each other.  I think MFJ is only selling the "B" version
but there could be other versions on the used market.

Take pride in the USA. 73
