Regardless of what else you carry, I recommend taking a BNC to double binding 
post adaptor and two wires, 25 feet each. Connect one wire to the red post and 
toss it into a tree or over a bush, connect the other wire to the black post 
and lay it on the ground. Press ATU TUNE and you’ll be good on 40 m through 10 
m. This is described in the KX2 manual and versions of it go back to the KX1 
ATU manual about 20 years ago. 

I wind up my wire figure-8 style on “midi winders” from SOTAbeams. They are 
similar in length to the KX3, so pack nicely.
