Mike, I looked over the application clearly we need to to mark that we have had a claim within th elast 3 years and if space for comment I would add that the claim was filed and is still pending. Barney

I live in a small (21 unit) condo building near Chicago, and the association is kind enough to let me put a Hustler antenna with three resonators on our first floor balcony. It works but OK not great. If you?re on a higher floor, you can do quite well from a condo. Is the building frame construction or steel framework with reinforced concrete slabs? I had to be stealthy about it, but I made it work. We were on the 3rd floor, with a balcony facing a parking lot that had a copse of trees behind it. I could attach a fishing sinker to the end of a piece of magnet wire and shoot it into the trees. Then I used a random wire tuner to operate HF. I got a bunch of contacts in Western Europe. Some were in the UK, and many were in Ireland. Nobody was the wiser. For the local 2m repeater I tried a copper J-Pole, sprayed with a textured fleck paint that matched the brick facade of the building perfectly. It couldn't be seen from the ground at all, it was that well hidden. But the neighbor below us had trouble with his clock radio receiving our 2m activity, so I gave away the J-Pole and built a 2m Moxon. That was hidden inside a wooden privacy lattice. We put 2 of these little gazebo-like fences on the balcony, one on each end, and the antenna was mounted inside one end. The n ull lobe was toward the building, and the downstairs neighbor never complained again. If I had to move into an apartment or other place that didn't allow outside antennas, I have a usable small transmitting loop that I could use indoors with some success. I've hit Bavaria with it using 5w with the antenna in my house on my workbench, so it must be getting out. Just a cheap loop I got on Ebay for around $100US -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 73, Gwen, NG3P On Wed, Aug 30, 2023 at 1:50?PM DAVID MOORMAN <k...@comcast.net> wrote: > Rob, do they specifically forbid HF radio transmission? Out of the box it was having issues.? For example, -When pressing PTT button on factory mic it will change frequency intermittently. -MIC UP/DOWN buttons put KX2 into TX mode briefly intermittently. -INT Mic and EXT Mic will display randomly when pressing any mic buttons. After experiencing these issues I called Elecraft and they immediately sent me a replacement mic but the problems still persisted. So I was instructed to send the radio back at my expense ($50 USPS insured) to Elecraft so they could diagnose it. I sent the radio back on July 21. After being at Elecraft for a month I was informed that they could only replicate the random INT Mic /EXT mic display flashing on the screen but could not duplicate the other issues I complained about.? I told them to keep trying because it happens fairly often and obviously makes for a difficult QSO when you keep having to adjust the VFO to stay on frequency.? So fast forward to today when I get an email stating they are sending the radio back to me with no fix and no resolution. Only that there could be a possible firmware fix in the future. I really do not think this is acceptable.? I am curious to see if anyone else has experienced the same issues with their KX2 and what did they do to resolve the issue. When you sent the radio back, did you sent back the mic as well? I'm wondering if they tried to replicate it with the same mike you're using. My best guess is it's a problem with the microphone connector - either the plug or the socket - maybe the two aren't meshing properly. From what you describe, it sounds like the KX2 itself functions without issue, when not using the mike - confirm? Thanks & 73, -Andrew NV1B .. He normally always used the Utility to change bands etc .So he took that RS232 cable off off and used the KPAK3AUX cable between the K3S and its switching between ALL bands following the K3S band but on17M the KPA500 SWR is OK in bypass but is high SWR in OPR and the K3S detects itand will just show high SWR. The K3S will put out power in STBY but of course not in KPA500 OPER because of the SWR. He has checked with his VNA and in fact the path thru the KPA is is essentially open on17 and in OPR and OK in STBY (50 ohm dummy load) . He tried cycling the bands many times thinking maybe the 17 M LPF relays were not making good contact since he had never tried 17M .No joy. He installed the latest firmware today and no change. So has anyone seen this ?? Archive search so far shows people have had 17 M issues but for other reasons. He plans to open it up and look at the LPF filter test port later if no ideas. Hank, Will the K3S transmit on 17M with the antenna connected directly to it? 73, Jim K9YC ------------------------------ Message: 19 Date: Fri, 1 Sep 2023 10:16:55 -0600 From: robertfollett <robert.foll...@comcast.net> To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K2 & K3 FOR Sale -- Back on the Market Message-ID: <7a095b36-ae82-439b-ba2b-c68672825...@comcast.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Gang: The person buying both my K2 & K3 had some unrelated issues, the the deal is off! My amp doesn't have a bandswitch - it gets Yaesu band data. Follows the transceiver from band to band like a puppy. I like it that way, because it's always on the right band, and I don't fry the LDMOS. The linear gives full output with about 10W of drive - so a perfect match for the base K2. Is there any convenient connector inside the radio with band data? Doesn't have to be the 4-bit binary that the linear expects... I would make up something to convert it. - Jerry, KF6VB ------------------------------ Message: 21 Date: Fri, 1 Sep 2023 19:46:08 +0000 From: Bill Priakos <b...@priakos.com> To: "elecraft@mailman.qth.net" <elecraft@mailman.qth.net> Subject: [Elecraft] Portable antennae for the KX3 Message-ID: <dm6pr13mb2281ffa2358b755a06be908ac3...@dm6pr13mb2281.namprd13.prod.outlook.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" I am new to the site ? Depending on how your homebrew amp selects its lowpass filter options, you may be able to pick up the relay control signals for the K2's bandpass and lowpass filter banks and use those to encode a band data word in the format used by Yaesu. There is no isolated connector on the K2 Front Panel, Control, or RF boards that makes available those relay control lines, so you would have to tap the traces where those control signals are exposed. Perhaps you can comment more on the homebrew amp design with regard to lowpass filter selection? 73, Mike, K8CN ------------------------------ _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft You must be a subscriber to post.
