You may try this:

Probably you must run it from DOS console, no JavaScript,
local files browsing doesn't work either.
If anything work feel free to say so.
Do not expect more.

Fine. Something is better than nothing.

I have tried it a while. It runs under cmd.exe (Win XP SP2). The most basic
features seem to work (see below though). Note, however, that I am an
occasional user of elinks, so my test was rather superficial.

I get:

elinks --version

ELinks 0.12.GIT (7a9b9f8171334b2e578bd91bc99b15fc316dca39) (built on Jun 24
2006 19:32:11)

Features:
Standard, Fastmem, No Backtrace, gzip, No mouse, Periodic Saving, Viewer
(Search History, Timer, Marks),
Cascading Style Sheets, Protocol (Authentication, File, FTP, HTTP, URI rewrite,
User protocols),
MIME (Option system, Mailcap, Mimetypes files), LED indicators, Bookmarks,
Cookies, Form History, Global History, Goto URL History

Hence no support for SSL/TLS either.

Some issues that I have observed are:

1. When I have tried to save changes in the configuration, elinks created a
subdirectory .elinks but then issued the error message:

Write config error
Unable to write to config file .elinks/elinks.conf
Cannot create temp file

2. In a not clearly reproducible way, some conections fail with the
error message:

Unable to retrieve ...
Socket is not connected

3. It does clear the screen on exit.

4. At the begining, elinks created a few files with funny names (like (Y- ),
containing the URLs of the sites visited. Later on it stopped doing so.
