  Hehe ;-) Someone proposed to make set-file-modes interactive and to
  take modes as an integer or string (octal or symbolic) parameter.

  I would have  preferred not to touch C code, but  on the other hand,
  I don't see why chmod would be dired-mode specific.

  Any advice ?
