As a follow-on to my first response...

In looking back tonight through past emc-user email traffic I found and
only then remembered that the thread on the Intel DN2800MT started back
in May or so. (Sorry folks, my life has been so helter-skelter lately I
not only forgot the beginnings of this thread, I forgot I'd contributed
to it back then.)

Lester had also reported problems with the Intel D2500HN board. I
remember I was bummed at the time because I liked the board's inclusion
of a parallel-port connector but I wasn't too worried since naively I
thought the problems would be transitory. This is because all the Intel
product descriptions asserted this board (well, really its D2500 Atom
processor) includes Intel GMA 3600 graphics. Naturally, thought I, Intel
would be as diligent on drivers for GMA 3600 graphics as they had been
for previous Intel GMA graphics, such as for the GMA 3150 graphics on
the D525MW board.

Silly me. It turns out that all the D2x00 and N2x00 Atom processors
include graphics subsystems based on the proprietary PowerVR SGX 545 GPU
design (see, e.g.,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Intel_graphics_processing_units).
This includes the D2500, N2600, D2700, and N2800 chipsets. No wonder so
many recent netbook buyers have been up in arms.

Using the VESA driver with these boards will give acceptable performance
in some applications but not in others.

Caveat emptor.

Regards,
Kent
