Hello,

It's been about two weeks since I last initiated a discussion on this list, so
I thought I'd see if there's been any further thought about organising
ourselves for next year's conference. (Discussions for this year's conference
started a bit earlier last year, but I suppose that's a topic for the main
EuroPython list.)

Looking over the list of roles that Laura submitted [1], is it not appropriate
to start thinking about where people might be able to contribute? This might
help clarify some of the earlier discussion that we had about infrastructure.

I'd be quite happy to be "Web content editor" again, and as attentive readers
will know, I've even proposed some kind of solution to replace CPS (since few
people were interested in using it, and since it isn't collaborative enough
for our new community-focused agenda). Note that as the "Web software
engineer" role states, this is all about "the website where the conference is
marketed", not the registration or proposals systems, and I'd even be happy
to help out under the "Web software engineer" role, too.

As I stated earlier, the Web site can be much more than a plain Wiki, and
people were interested in all sorts of advanced applications, so I'd be happy
to work alongside anyone doing anything like that. Meanwhile, my own
experiments with MoinMoin suggest that at least for the basic content
editing, we could probably manage quite well with such a solution, and
although people might have things to say about the visual appearance of the
theme I've cooked up, I think we could have quite a reasonable looking site
that shouldn't put people off from either browsing or editing the content.

So, is anyone else thinking of putting themselves forward for one or more of
the roles? Are we ready to start thinking about all the important stuff that
shouldn't be rushed into place in May next year? ;-)

Paul

P.S. As I said before, I don't have Internet hosting privileges, but I'm
willing to work with people to let them play with what I've been
experimenting with. Even if the idea of using MoinMoin eventually fails to
appeal to people, I'll still make the theme available, of course.
