By the way, the selling of Lightning talks to the sponsors, that Bruce complained about, is entirely true.

Lightening talks are 5 minute venue where you can talk about anything you want. I did get tired of hearing another short pitch that some company was hiring but that is par for the course. If the venue is open for anyone to give a talk, then all talks should be welcomed. But I do hope that his comment about sponsors getting preferential treatment for lightening talks isn't true. As to the quality of the talks, I think they were reasonably good. With the exception of the Teach Me Twisted open space discussion that took place last night in Midway. This was hands down the best presentation that I have been to in a long time. The format was basically a really good facilitator (Steve Holden) talking with, cajoling, questioning, and anything else he had to do with the core Twisted developers to get them to teach him the basics of Twisted programming. It was fantastic. I think the audience participation and the open format was a great way to learn more about an interesting and sometimes difficult topic to understand. To misquote Tim Peters, this was one honking great idea -- let's do more of those! - - Peter ------- End of Forwarded Message _______________________________________________ Europython-improve mailing list [email protected] http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/europython-improve
