One other thing.
I have an idea of tagging talks for the benefit of scheduling, in such a
way that the rule 'no talks with the same tag should be scheduled
simultaneously'. For the purposes of this exercise, talk submitter name
effectively becomes another tag too. Then during scheduling, which is a
combinatorial s.o.b, one doesn't have to think about every action too
much. Instead one just needs to try and establish some tracks to the
extent that one can, and then fill in the gaps by following that lone,
single rule.
I think the up-front work of tagging talks like this is less than the
amount of work it would save during the scheduling.
Is either the 'tag' or 'supertag' field suitable for use in this
fashion? If so, then I'll make a start in creating a list of suitable
tags, run them by you guys, and then start applying them to the talks.
Make sense?

I've been through the submitted talks and accepted 97, nearly all of them.

There are 4 that I did not accept. Either because the speaker
submitted multiple talks, or a talk and a tutorial and stated their
preference not to do all of them.

Of those accepted I've allocated most 45 minutes each, based on our
decision to standardize talk length his year. There are 5 that still
need to be allocated. We may want to break the rule and go to 60
minutes for these few, or double up to 90 minutes. They are

Given these numbers, I've attached a mock up schedule (odf and pdf).
The placement of talks is arbitrary and impossible, ignore those. How
does the length of each day, and the timings of the slots look?
If there is agreement, I will send out emails to all submitters
formally accepting/declining their talks.
