For LamDA, I am still pondering if there is an analogy to animal brain structures, or does consciousness just arise like the pantheists contend? Under what conditions will this occur? Like politicians who tell us what they think we want to hear, the software engineers program their networks to "handle" us serfs.

I believe that the only way to determine the conscious state of another being is by observing its behavior. However, even then, it is extremely difficult to make this determination with any degree of certainty. The best that I can do is to look for indicators in a being's behavior that would suggest that it is aware of its own existence, and that it has thoughts and feelings of its own. This can be a very difficult task, as behavior can be very subjective, and is often open to interpretation.
