You need a new plan I think. One that starts with a hub server and a CAS. Having them on the same server is dependent upon your environment, but that is how I did it. The CAS would replace your FE, the FE needs to go before you put any mailboxes on a 2007 server. Be aware that the first HUB server will take over your routing between your servers. Also, your users will not see the new OWA until their mailbox is moved to a 2007 mailbox server. That was a nice surprise, we were able to migrate a group at a time...answer the questions...then move the next group.
