There was a 6.4 earthquake in the San Fernando Valley when I was living
in California - February 9, 1971 at 6:01 AM. The first thing I did was
run out the front door to see what was going on. It was scary and
unsettling (no pun intended) - nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. We
have the Balcones Fault running through Austin but it's been quiet for a
long time.
