Regarding the Great Barrington Proclamation, This has been long-dispelled, citing that sacrificing hundreds of thousands of lives for the unproven benefit of potentially better mental health is not worth the risk, especially when one weighs the mental toll that causing harm or death to so many people causes. The meager data on the mental health consequences of isolation does not take into account the fact that the negative psychological stimuli caused by the pandemic would affect people regardless, and would affect people a great deal more if we caused wanton loss of hundreds of thousands more lives by allowing the disease to ravage communities. Especially with very very little support for the notion of herd immunity with COVID 19 and substantial evidence of the potential for reinfection after a person has already had the disease, unfortunately not taking precautions is willfully endangering lives.
Essentially, this is an emotional plea with little factual backing but that stirs up feelings. Additionally, when this was originally released it had signers like “Dr. Johnny Bananas” and “Dr. Person Fakename” which kind of adds to its lack of legitimacy.
