A few quick comments (I am in meetings for the rest of the week, and

I think this would be a great topic to discuss.  I can see many possible
ways to do this.  For another alternative, ehile my initial proposal did
not explicitly address caching, indexing, or synchronous updates, one
can imagine a configuration that stacks synchronous/asynchronous stores
within the HighlevelStorage layer as part of its implementation (for
example).  In the end it is a matter of putting the pieces together in a
way that is easy to understand and extend.
