-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fedora Update Notification FEDORA-2009-1650 2009-02-13 03:21:18 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name : mkinitrd Product : Fedora 10 Version : 6.0.71 Release : 4.fc10 URL : git://git.fedoraproject.org/git/hosted/mkinitrd Summary : Creates an initial ramdisk image for preloading modules. Description : mkinitrd creates filesystem images for use as initial ram filesystem (initramfs) images. These images are used to find and mount the root filesystem. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update Information: Do not call dm_resolve_name on dmraidsets names, sometimes it fails, and it is not necessary, this fixes the dmraid boot failure seen on some systems (#476818). Fix finding / by UUID or LABEL not working with newer kernels (#480667). Fix mkinitrd not supporting relatime fstab option for / (#296361). Note that if you are impacted by any of these bugs, then in order to benifit from this update you need to regenerate your initrd like this: KVER=######-#### mv /boot/initrd-$(KVER).img /boot/initrd-$(KVER).img.old mkinitrd /boot/initrd-$(KVER).img $(KVER) Where KVER should be set to the kernel version-release for the non-bootable kernel you are trying to fix. This is the string between "initrd-" and ".img" when you do a: ls /boot You can find the version-release string for all installed kernels by doing: rpm -q --qf "%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}\n" kernel This will print the full name-version- release.arch for each installed kernel followed by the version-release. If you do not have any bootable kernel at all, you can try to fix this by booting the install CD in to rescue mode and then do: chroot /mnt/sysimage <install mkinitrd update> <execute the commands above> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ChangeLog: * Thu Feb 12 2009 Hans de Goede <hdego...@redhat.com> - 6.0.71-4 - Do not call dm_resolve_name on dmraidsets names, sometimes it fails, and it is not necessary, this fixes the dmraid boot failure seen on some systems (#476818) - Fix finding / by UUID or LABEL not working with newer kernels (#480667) - Fix mkinitrd not supporting relatime fstab option for / (#296361) * Mon Dec 8 2008 Hans de Goede <hdego...@redhat.com> - 6.0.71-3 - Use scsi_wait_scan on scsi devices instead of stabilized (#470628) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- References: [ 1 ] Bug #476818 - Fedora 10 dmraid: mkinitrd creates non working initrd https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=476818 [ 2 ] Bug #480667 - nash unable to find dm devs by uuid or label causing boot to fail https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=480667 [ 3 ] Bug #296361 - [PATCH] nash mount should support relatime https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=296361 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This update can be installed with the "yum" update program.
