>>Layl in SE Arizona where it has been drizzling rain and cold for most of the week. <<
Define cold, asks Robin, who lived in SE Arizona for 21 years, but who has been in Swampeast MO for an amazing 22 years. And, just to keep things fibrous, I learned to spin on nameless wool roving sold to me by Spin 'n' Weave in Tucson, where I bought my first wheel, a Wee Peggy. But having learned I then spun several gorgeous Border Leicester fleeces husbanded by a local farmer/spinner before moving on to a $5 jacob fleece, which was an interesting experience and ultimately yielded my medieval Liberty Bell tunic--very warm but leaves my arms free. When I wear it I feel like a cast member of Monty Python & the Holy Grail. Subsequently started on Merino, Icelandic, and Polwarth (my all-time favorite)and other wools. I don't have time for a lot of spinning these days, but I still do a fair amount with merino that I blend with silk and/or mohair. Angora was hard for me, but blended w/ merino it spun like a dream. The only thing I have absolutely hated was dog fur, which I would never do again, though I realize I didn't work w/ a very good quality fur. Back to Lurkdom...
