You can copy ONLY measure-assigned smart expressions by selecting only
that item in the Items to Copy dialogue box. However, this will also
copy any OTHER measure-attached smart expressions you might have as
well, so you might want to do the rits first. But, that being said,
once you have copied even the unwanted expressions, chances are they
will all be vertically aligned in your score so you can drag around the
handles and delete them all in one shot. So all is not lost.

Hi all,
I know this has been discussed here before, but I don't remember what
the consensus was.
I need to put a tempo mark in the score like rit..... (that's rit
followed by a dashed line, not a series of dots). If I do it as a
smart shape, it will adjust its length automatically in extracted
parts and will continue over system breaks. But there's no way to
assign a smart shape to a staff list, so I'd need to manually add it
to all staves before extracting parts -- and there's also no way
(using Mass Edit or Robert's Mass Copy) to copy *only* this shape from
one staff to another.
If I do it as a shape expression, I can assign it to a staff list. But
its position and length will need to be adjusted in all extracted
parts, and I may need to add a new copy of the expression over a
system break. These all wouldn't be so bad -- except that stretching
the expression with the mouse doesn't seem to respect the shift key to
constrain the stretching to the horizontal, making it difficult to
stretch the expression horizontally only.
Anybody have a favorite way of handling this? Am I missing something
obvious?
